Newly Published Poem: Leftovers

Well, it happened.

After many years of not really sharing my poetry, I submitted one to Spillwords and it was accepted and published 5/3/2026.

The title is Leftovers and it's one I'm especially proud of because it was one of the first times I decided to write poetry using a point of view inspired by everyday life and its mundanity, likening it to much more. You can read Leftovers right here!

Finding out this poem was getting published happened during a flurry of activity. I was away for the weekend, volunteering for a large convention where I was working 14-hour days on my feet and while fun, it was exhausting. I checked my email at midnight or so Saturday, May 2nd and saw the acceptance. It was a surreal moment in the middle of everything else. I let out a whispered "Yes!" and threw my fist in the air. My son was asleep in the same hotel room, so I had to contain my excitement a bit. There's nothing that comes close to the feeling of validation of one's art, whether its written or otherwise. I was elated, to say the least.
